Look and See

Artist statement

My art is a mirror, reflecting an internal landscape that I have traversed for over 33 years.

Each canvas - music, kites, sculpture, carving, painting, voice, word - is a sacred space where I express what this journey has revealed to me.
They are not works. They are the language of my soul.

Creativity is my alchemy: the sacred process of transforming pain into light.
A light that inspires, gives meaning and awakens what is already alive, sometimes buried, within others.

Essentially, my art is an invitation for you to remember yours.

I went to study music at the Tel Aviv Academy because back then, in 1981 :) it was clear that you graduate from university. I knew how to play, I was accepted to the Academy, and over the years I discovered that I am indeed more than a musician, but the music I hear is in the frequency field that is neither audible nor visible.
In retrospect, I verified that my self-taught path and studies in academies do not match the harmonious way in which I explore and delve deeper into my art and life.

Kites enabled me to climb up the string and observe what was happening from a perspective. I learned that the kite only flies when all the forces acting on it are equal to 0.
Lift force + drag force + gravitational force + tension force = 0
That's how it is in life too.

When I traveled with my kites in other skies around the world, I encountered a new world I had never known before: aerial design.
In perspective, I realize that I started drawing when I was already building kites and designing huge spaces.

The transition to sculpture was natural and I found myself providing architects with artistic solutions for site-specific spaces.
The spiral sculpture at Agamim Hotel  in Eilat, is filled with mirrors and crystals that diffuse light throughout the lobby.,

I started painting in 2000.
I painted, I breathed, I explored nature outside and inside.
Nature, painting and Vipassana were the center of my life and my model for returning to a sane life.
I began to investigate why so much light emanates from my paintings and yet life, my life, is still dead.

Kabbalah entered my life in 1989 following various hardships I experienced in my life in the areas of relationships, children, friends, and meaning.
At first I didn't understand anything, but something drew me to it, and to this day I study it as information that advances my ability to Receive.
At the beginning of my journey, I painted what I went through with me using familiar Jewish symbolism, while later I developed a personal, universal symbolic language that is less related to familiar Jewish iconography.

The American period of my life, from 2008 to 2015, was blessed with creativity.
The biblical stories fascinated me and inspired me to create a series of paintings that express my perception of what they symbolize.
I released a video series with explanations of my paintings and another series that combines my flute playing with my paintings.
I wrote a book that features 11 paintings from the series.
It's time to discover that I have 8 names - Joanna, Yael, Anicce, Leela, YoHana, Ania, Yana, Yaya, and my works are signed according to the relevant name.

Most of the exhibitions I did as an artist were during my 7 years in the US as part of my studies at the Fourth Way.
(Fourth Way, Gurdjieff's tradition) which provided me with further perspectives on universal esotericism. This added volume to my paintings which have always expressed my understandings of what goes on behind the scenes of what is seen and heard.

When I returned from the US in 2015, I settled in the north, painted two paintings, and went into Hester(a word that wraps depression in a Kabbalistic veil :)
I painted a little, I didn't have much to say to the canvas.
5 years of observation, searching for meaning, merging connections that I left open when I traveled, and delving deeper into my inner world with the help of psychedelia, which had already begun in the US.

In 2015 to 2023 I painted more paintings that depicted the inner work and its results. The understandings I received following endless hours of observation and meditation.
The paintings became Power Objects
If I began my path as an artist who sees light only in her paintings and not in her life, a reversal occurred here and the light began to fill me as a human being, as a woman, as a mother, and as an equal creator.

In 2020, with the beginning of the "pandemic," I began a new octave - sound painting. I began to paint on my face, temporary paintings that expressed what was happening inside me as a response to what was happening in the world.
At the same time, I've created dozens of podcasts on YouTube, the series "Emotional Tuesday," "Hints," and others.
The peak came when I began (March 2025) postingVoicePaintings on Instagram that stirred up the internet and within a year and a half gained millions of viewers and thousands of followers.

These days, September 2026, after returning from 30 days of silence in India, I would like to change phase again.
I want more quiet, I want to delve deeper into canvas painting as opposed to the intensity of the ephemeral VoicePainting, I want to start entering the exhibiting spaces, express my voice and sell my works again.
Emerging from a web containing many spiders fighting for prey, and create a personal more intimate web of my own (without leaving Instegram...), in which every soul that joins it will strengthen its abilities and live a vibrant life.
